The Votes Are In!

by Mitch Byers :: April 27th, 2007 :: Posted in About |

Over the past several weeks, I have asked several dozen people to help decide the most appropriate tag-line for the InterviewRX website. The goal of the tagline was to:

  1. Connect with the audience
  2. Be short and catchy
  3. Be inclusive of my service offerings.

And the winner is…

INTERVIEW RX – Your first aid for building, mending, or growing your career

Credit for the tagline goes to my wife, Connie with a special thanks to Terry Frazier of Nearline Publishers Inc for his guidelines and suggestions, Ruth Glover for her enthusiastic endorsement, and Neil Newmark for his comments and support. The tagline is part of the new website design still in process. The overhaul will provide additional resources for job seekers and hiring managers. The updated design and color scheme will increase the ease of browsing the site. If you have something you feel should be added, please send it right away.

About Mitch Byers

by Mitch Byers :: July 24th, 2006 :: Posted in About |

For over a decade, I have recruited professionals in banking and finance, information technology and the medical professions through more than 3,000 face-to-face interviews. This experience has provided the proper framework in which to share information with you and other job seekers wishing to increase their interview success and enhance their credibility in the marketplace.

Getting the job is a major hurdle. But a successful job search also includes compensation to match your market value. I have pulled together practical resources to help you more easily talk about your value in the marketplace.

Along the way, I have coached hiring managers on architecting and implementing a comprehensive candidate selection process. The building blocks of a successful campaign include performance/behavior-based job descriptions, position-specific competency models, behavioral interview scripts and a matching scoring guide. When used in conjunction with a formal on-boarding program, companies have been able to hire top-notch employees in a more focused and engaging manner.

Since 2002, I have been asked to speak to job transition groups, professional groups and Fortune 500 companies. Topics have covered diverse subjects including: Interviewing Strategies, Behavioral Interviewing, Core Competencies, Competency Models, Performance-Based Job Descriptions, Salary Negotiations, and Emotional Intelligence.

Another avenue of sharing job transition advice has been through three-minute commentaries aired on public radio KERA 90.1 in Dallas.

My professional experience is complemented with an undergraduate degree from The University of Texas (Dallas) and an MBA from Texas A&M (Commerce). Formal training was followed with a certification in the popular Bar-on EQ-i® (Emotional Intelligence) assessment.

The History of INTERVIEW RX

by Mitch Byers :: August 2nd, 2005 :: Posted in About |

The Formative Years

The material for Interview RX is gathered from a variety of sources and personal experience beginning in 1997. Initially, I developed an 11-page Interview Prep Package for candidates interviewing with hiring companies. The information covered Dos and Don’ts in interviewing and how to handle certain interview questions, like reasons for leaving a job or salary-related questions. Over the months, the document grew to 19 pages and included an article about the dangers of accepting counter-offers and a sample resignation letter.

The Inspirational Years

Completing two masters degree provided a fertile environment in which to research and write about topics related to hiring practices, interview stress and career decisions. Surprisingly, there were decades of comprehensive studies and empirical research resources.

After graduating, I made a conscious decision to pull all the bits and pieces of interviewing and hiring information together into a comprehensive format that promoted a practicle understanding of the interview process. As the chapters began to come together, I visited networking groups of individuals in job transitions and listened to a variety of issues they faced in finding new positions. These discussions were inspirational in the development of several new concepts included in the book.

Bringing it All Together

Beginning in June 2004, the text for the book began to take shape. Illustrations were added and by the end of September, the initial editing was complete for the first formal presentation of the material in October. Over a 4 week period, I lead 18 people in a comprehensive review of the material. The weekly sessions provided a venue for group discussions and a lively exchange of ideas. The participant’s insights and feedback provided further refinement and clarification of the material.

Today

Today, INTERVIEW RX is in its third edition and one of the cornerstones of our service offerings. The publisher encouraged the addition of new material and SALARY NEGOTIATIONS RX, our first ebook, was released in 2006. New services and educational material are in the works. Your input is welcomed as we continue to expand and customize our service offerings.
